World News with Charles Gibson had a special one hour show on Friday. I missed it but I found it online. ABC doesn't do embeds so the links will cause an ABC player to pop up and play the video clips.

This is the opening segment. Towards the end at about the 3 minute mark (abc does countdown times) it plays the relevant clip, but you can't exactly skip. Sorry.

In this clip they talk about why he might have done this and it is mentioned that a patient of his recently committed suicide and may have helped attribute to other factors to push the guy over the edge.

Granola:

500gr untreated oatmeal
200gr sunflower seeds
200gr of sesame
200gr peeled, sliced almonds
200gr of various dry fruits of your choice
500gr of puffed wheat
1/2 cup of canola oil
1 cup of date/carob syrup

stir-fry the oatmeal for 5-10 minutes with the silan and oil until the juices are bubbling and all the oatmeal is fully coated in the mix. Spread the oatmeal onto a flat oven pan and place in the oven for 10-20 minutes in full heat while stirring every couple of minutes or so.
When the oatmeal starts to gain a brownish-golden color, remove from oven, add the rest of the ingredients and mix.

My son (5.5 weeks old) is exclusively breastfed, but in the last week or so, his bowel movements have stopped containing the "seedy" milk fat. It's just yellowish and watery. He's still having 3+ per day and doesn't seem to have lost any weight, but I don't have a scale so I can't be sure. Should I be worried about this?

Subject:Tom Tancredo in 1969: "I am Too Sad To Serve on Nam... Can I Stay Home?"
Time:10:42 pm
Tom Tancredo Walks Off MSNBC Set Because Of Markos Moulitas (VIDEO)

On MSNBC Friday night, David Shuster (filling in for Ed Shultz) addressed hateful signs at Thursday's Capitol Hill "House call" against health care reform. But the discussion escalated into a fight that led a Republican guest to walk off the set.

Former Colorado congressman Tom Tancredo refused to criticize Republican leaders for participating in the event, saying there were equally offensive signs at anti-Bush rallies in the past. He said they should talk about the policy, not the signs.

Daily Kos founder Markos Moulitas defended health care reform, pointing out that the military uses government-run health care. Tancredo said veterans complained about their health care and would much rather have a private choice.

"Tom, I'm a veteran. Okay?" Moulitas responded. "I did not get a deferment because I was too depressed to fight a war I supported in Vietnam. I'm a veteran. They want a more effective V.A. ..."

"You're not going to do that. You're not going to try to insult me that way and then pretend like we're just going on and talk about that. You either apologize ..." When Moulitas did not apologize, Tancredo simply took out his earpiece and walked away.

As a Republican student activist, Tancredo spoke out in favor of the Vietnam War but did not serve.

After graduating from college in June 1969,
he became eligible to serve in Vietnam. Tancredo said he went for his physical, telling doctors he'd been treated for depression, and eventually got a deferment.

"I think he left a little early," Shuster joked. "The congressman is always welcome on this show. We always appreciate hearing his point of view. It's a feisty one. That's what we like around here."

Chuck DeVore: The New Conservative Darling, Birther Connections And All

One of the next great conservative hopes seems likely to be a California Republican who has already taken on Senate Republicans, has ties to birthers and tea-partiers and is virtually unknown by the mainstream media establishment.

Chuck DeVore, a Republican member of the California State Assembly, is positioning himself as the ideologically pure alternative to Republican Carly Fiorina in the party's effort to take Sen. Barbara Boxer's Senate seat in 2010. This past week, he got the seal of approval from the party base: an endorsement by the Senate Conservative Fund and the explicit backing of conservative darling Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.). Among the right-wing netroots, his race against Fiorina has been elevated to top-tier importance: alongside Marco Rubio's primary bid against Florida Governor Charlie Crist.

But who, exactly, is he? Not many people beyond Republican devotees and California political watchers know the guy. The Washington Post's Chris Cillizza -- who is more plugged into local politics than most D.C.-based reporters -- copped to not really having a clue about DeVore just last week.

Subject:Wall Street Bankers Solution To Stop Next Great Depression. Make Cheating and Stealing Legal
Time:10:22 pm
Civil War In Corporate America: Banks Battling The Chamber On Accounting Rules

Amid the ongoing financial regulation overhaul, the banking industry is hoping to pull off a quiet power grab that has eluded its grasp since the Great Depression, by stripping the independence of the board that sets financial accounting standards.

The move could effectively let banks set their own accounting standards in rough economic times.

Astonishingly, at a time when the public is crying out for greater regulation to limit excessive risk-taking by financial institutions, the banks are trying to get Congress to agree that the next time there's a big downturn, they should have the ability to alter their accounting standards -- essentially, fudge the numbers -- so that the public and investors won't be able to tell how insolvent they really are. By ignoring their declining asset values, they can avoid the standard requirement of raising more capital.

The mechanism is contained in an amendment set to be introduced in mid-November by Rep. Ed Perlmutter (D-Colo.) that would move final authority over the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) from the Securities and Exchange Commission to a new body, a so-called "oversight" board, that would include the officials charged with managing systemic risks to the financial markets.

Cantor Pushes Back Against Limbaugh, Hitler-Obama Analogies

House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) criticized conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh, on Friday, for drawing comparisons between President Obama and Adolph Hitler. And, in a sequence that seems rare in modern Republican politics, the Virginia Republican seems eager to publicize his rebuke.

Cantor's office sent over a write-up of the congressman's interview with Bloomberg News, in which he praised Limbaugh as a voice of the conservative movement but condemned his use of Nazi imagery and analogies to chastise the president.

"Do I condone the mention of Hitler in any discussion about politics?" Cantor said. "No, I don't, because obviously that is something that conjures up images that frankly are not, I think, very helpful."

"Fox And Friends" Hosts Worry That Military Needs "Special Debriefings" For Muslims

On this morning's Fox And Friends, hosts Brian Kilmeade and Gretchen Carlson were all a-whip with Salem Witch Trial panic over the thought that Nidal Hasan represented some sort of vanguard of deadly Islamist shootings to come.

Kilmeade began the nonsense thusly:

KILMEADE: Do you think it's time for the military to have special debriefings of Muslim Army officers -- anybody enlisted?...Because if I'm going to be deployed in a foxhole, if I'm going to be sticking in an outpost, I got to know the guy next to me is not going to want to kill me.

First of all, as someone who's been unfortunate enough to catch Brian "The Brown Haired One" Kilmeade revealing his personality on the air, my judgment on the matter is that the only foxhole in which Kilmeade is not likely to encounter someone who harbors the desire to do him harm is one in which he is the sole occupant. And even then, who knows? I give even odds!

Secularism 'means fall in births'

Lord Sacks
Lord Sacks was knighted in 2005 for services to interfaith relations

Europe is facing a population crisis because of attacks on religion by secular writers, Britain's chief rabbi has said.

Lord Sacks blamed Europe's falling birth rate on a culture of "consumerism and instant gratification".

He said the continent was "dying" and accused its citizens of not being prepared for parenthood's "sacrifices".

He made his comments in a lecture for Christian think tank Theos in central London on Wednesday.

The 61-year-old, who took his seat in the Lords last week, said: "Wherever you turn today - Jewish, Christian or Muslim - the more religious the community, the larger on average are their families.

"The major assault on religion today comes from the neo-Darwinians."

'Massive sacrifices'

One of the leading "neo-Darwinians" is Richard Dawkins, whose bestseller The God Delusion argues the rise of religious fundamentalism has divided people around the world.

Lord Sacks said Europe was the most secular region in the world and the only continent seeing populations fall.

He said parenthood involved "massive sacrifices" of money, attention, time and emotional energy.

Lord Sacks asked: "In [modern Europe]... where will you find space for the concept of sacrifice for the sake of generations not born?"

He continued: "Europe is dying, exactly as Polybius said about ancient Greece in the third pre-Christian century.

"We are undergoing the moral equivalent of climate change and no-one is talking about it."

The chief rabbi was knighted in 2005 for services to the community and interfaith relations.

He has been chief rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations of the Commonweath for 18 years.

Subject:Posi Solo? Noobie needs help.
Time:08:59 pm
Warning: Noobie question ahead.

After 33 months and one 50 I've decided that is time to run my first task force.
Since I really don't know many people in the game nor have the time to do an entire tf in one seat with a pug, I've decided to go solo.
I read that Posi is a good solo tf since it doesn't have an AV at the end, so I went for it. However, I'm having technical difficulties. Here is what I'm doing:

1) Went to Steel Canyon
2) Ask two nice random heroes to join my team to start my tf
3) Once I have the team I talked to Posi and get the first mission
4) Then I travel to the mission and get inside.
5) I thank the nice people that helped me and let them know I'm ok.

Here is where things go wrong. As soon as the last person leaves the team, I get kicked out of the TF.

What am I doing wrong?

P.S:
Many thanks in advance.

Subject:New PC opinions
Time:08:21 pm
I've been looking at new PCs to replace the 5+ years old systems my wife and I have, and would like to get some advice and opinions as far as the hardware for playing CoX. I'm looking for a solid mid-range system (about $500-700 since I'll be getting 2, plus video cards, etc) that I can upgrade as I need.

I've nearly decided on this HP P6210Y from Best Buy, but it's been a while since I've seriously shopped for components and I've fallen behind.

Also, what would be a good video card under $200 (again, would need 2)? I'd like it to have a TV Out connection, but that's not a deal-breaker.

Any thoughts and recommendations are welcome.

A Young Champion of Women’s Colleges
By Hannah Smith

Hannah Smith is a senior at University Laboratory School in Baton Rouge, La., who is currently applying to colleges.

My friend, Guy, looked at me like I had told him I’d eaten nails for breakfast. “You’re looking at all girls’ colleges, are you crazy?”

For most of my life I have considered myself a bit of a feminist. What sane girl wouldn’t? It was the feminists who were responsible for women’s suffrage, Title IX and the Equal Pay Act. So when it came time for me to decide what colleges I would apply to, I decided to do what so many girls now a days are forgetting. The majority of the schools I would apply to would be women’s colleges, specifically the seven sisters: the all-woman’s colleges that were a response to the once all-male Ivy League.

My dream has always been a career in politics, and never before in history have women held as many powerful positions as they do today. But because politics is still a predominantly male field, I know that coming from an all-women’s college, or even just a school where the female population is significantly higher than the male one, can give me an edge. At all-women’s colleges there is no fear of your intellect seeming unattractive. In fact, at these institutions women aren’t afraid that voicing their opinions may poorly represent their gender.
Why do you want to go to an all girl’s school? Don’t you like boys? )

I go to Mount Holyoke (hence the picture chosen haha) and while there are some things I can't stand, there are way more that I love. I especially agree with her saying that boys become a distraction and competition, because in high school it was like that and for college I'd rather learn for the sake of learning rather than be motivated by a cute boy.

Subject:Changing the sexist language of the Bible
Time:04:02 pm
It’s considered sacred by many but sexist by some. The Bible is at the center of a debate over whether certain words that refer only to men should be changed. Some Christians believe it’s long overdue, while traditionalists say the Word of God should not be tampered with.

"At the heart of sexism is the objectification of women,” said Reverend Gary Blaine with the University Congregational Church.

And Rev. Blaine says you don’t have to look far to find sexism in the Bible.

"The 10th Commandment says, “you shall not covet your neighbor's house, you shall not covet your neighbor's wife,” Rev. Blaine said. “All of the items in this list are pieces of property, and such assumptions flow throughout the entire Bible.”

Reflecting the male-dominated society in which the Bible was written thousands of years ago, but whose language today is not considered politically correct. That’s why University Congregational Church chooses its words carefully, beginning with how it refers to God.

"’Mother’ and ‘father’, ‘she’ sometimes, ‘he’ other times,” said Rev. Dr. Meredyth Bellows with the University Congregational Church.

"I think we put God in a box when we think of God as just male, just female,” said Karen Robu with the University Congregational Church.

Likewise, followers of God are not just “sons” or “brethren”, so the pastor uses inclusive language like ‘children of God’.

While many Christians may agree with that in theory, actually changing Scripture is a touchy subject. Just two months ago, the publishers of this Bible -- Today's New International Version -- announced it would be discontinued. There was such a public outcry over the many masculine references that were changed or eliminated; many conservative churches would not use it, including First Missionary Church in Newton.

"I don't quibble with the intent of the translators, but it is more of an interpretation that what I'm comfortable with,” said Dan Quinlin with First Missionary Church.

Quinlin is not only associate pastor, but a professor of language at Bethel College. He believes that because the Old Testament was written in Hebrew and the New Testament was written in Greek, translations to English must use modern words to be understood. For example, saying Mary was “pregnant’ instead of “great with child”. But Quinlin contends that adding words like ‘brothers’ and ‘sisters’ could shade the original meaning.

"To actually change what the text says, I'm hesitant to do that,” he said.

"It starts a slippery slope that we're changing the Word that's been handed down to us for centuries,” said Mike Bartless with St. Mary Catholic Church.

Many in the Catholic Church share that concern, including women who say they’ve always understood that words in the Bible like ‘man’ or ‘mankind’ also apply to them.

"The traditional grammatical gender of the persons of the Trinity should be maintained,” said Nancy Huffman with St. Mary Catholic Church.

So the war of words continues with women caught in the middle.

The Bible that’s been discontinued will go back to the drawing board and its publishers are promising a more traditional version in 2011.

I've liked the Yankees since I was a kid.  I'm not a rabid fan, but I've always rooted for them so I'm happy with this years result. What makes it difficult is my wife is an Angels fan.  I like the Angels as well so I don't mind if the Angels win, and I was ecstatic when they did win it all back in 2002.  My wife on the other hand, actively dislikes the Yankees.  I get "the eye"  when I cheer for the Yankees winning.  ( See Roy, I have lots of exposure and immunity built up to it)

The team I actively root against is the Dodgers. I will root for any team playing against them.  This makes it hard since I live in a Dodger fan town.  My boss and the accountant where I work are Dodger fans so I have to listen to Dodger talk all day.

But, tonight I have football to watch.  It's the game of the year for the area.   Stockdale vs Frontier. ( live updating on the game as it plays)   My son plays for Stockdale and it pretty much comes down to tonight.  The winner is guaranteed at least 1/2 the league title, and a good seating for district playoffs.

So, I won't be on until late tonight.  I've got football to keep me occupied.  :D

Boo Yankees!  Minnesota -- next season! Yay!

I'm a Cubs fan.  I'm supposed to hate St. Louis, but who I really hate is the Atlanta Braves.  I hate the Braves because of their fair-weather fans.  Back in the 80's even Dog the Bounty Hunter could not have found a Braves fan in this area (the Southeast - their home turf!).  And then the 90's happened and suddenly everybody and their ancestors dating back to the Old Country were braves fans and had been since the invention of hitting things with sticks and then running.  Big whoop.  They only won one World Series in that whole time.  So then they stopped going to the championship every year  and then they started sucking, and now all those die-hard Braves fans are swearing they never liked them to begin with.

So Braves suck because of their fans.  Cubs Rock! (tm) because of their fans.  If you can love a team that has sucked for most of a hundred years, then you are a true fan.  Cleveland Rocks too (although their team hasn't had as much time to suck as the Cubs have had.).

Subject:Fraternity Accused of Stealing 10,000 Student Newspapers to Cover Up Date Rape Story
Time:04:11 pm
As it turns out, I’m not the only one hoping that the widespread media coverage of date rape drugging will die down a bit. A fraternity on the University of Arizona campus has been accused of sabotaging 10,000 campus newspapers in order to cover up a small item in which a woman alleged having been drugged and possibly sexually assaulted at one of the frat’s parties.

The copies of the Arizona Daily Wildcat containing the offending “Police Beat” item were apparently removed from their racks and strewn on the outskirts of campus shortly after publication on Oct. 8. The Daily Wildcat pinned the sabotage on the fraternity named in the piece, Phi Kappa Psi, after the Spanish homework of members Alex Cornell and Nick Kovaleski surfaced at the site of the discarded newspapers—a revelation the Phoenix New Times astutely notes mirrors a plot point from the 1998 film The Big Lebowski. The New Times phoned Phi Kappa Psi President Keith Peters “to find out if two ‘pledges’ were really dumb enough to steal 10,000 free newspapers and then leave their homework with the stolen stash.” Peters declined to comment.

The student paper later received less hilarious evidence linking Phi Kappa Psi to the crime—e-mails from friends and relatives of fraternity members confirming that the theft was engineered “under the orders of fraternity leadership.” Despite the paper’s leads, the University of Arizona Police Department closed the case “without questioning any Phi Psi members.”

Nevertheless, the prank has directed significant campus attention to the original item, a modest 250-word crime brief. It’s clear that Phi Kappa Psi severely miscalculated their damage control over the drugging accusations. Even on a college campus, a straight item on an attempted date rape will hardly cause a stir. An item on a fraternity’s elaborate—and absurdly botched—plan to keep that attempted date rape item hush-hush, on the other hand? People actually care about that.

But let’s get back to the reason this 10,000 paper cover-up is so offensive in the first place: Apparently, the fraternity really, really, really didn’t want people to know that its parties may feature date rape drugs. Below is the original crime report that Phi Kappa Psi was so afraid of getting out there. (Heads up for the future, boys: Newspapers are on the Internet these days). According to the alleged victim’s testimony, she experienced symptoms of GHB after attending a Phi Kappa Psi party in September:
The woman claimed that on arrival, a fraternity member she knew gave her a drink. Later, an unidentified man gave her another drink. The woman told police she had assumed both drinks contained vodka, as they were both colorless. The woman reported that at approximately 11:30 p.m., she had begun feeling “overly flirtatious.” The woman also claimed to have experienced a loss of both hearing and bladder control. The woman told officers that her friend had walked her back to her residence at the Arizona-Sonora Residence Hall at approximately 1 a.m. on Sept. 27, at which point she vomited. The woman’s friends later told her that between the hours of 11:30 p.m. on Sept. 26 and 1 a.m. on Sept. 27, she had made out with three different men at the party. The next day, the woman looked up GHB online and believed she had experience its symptoms. She also told police that she had attempted to contact the fraternity president and had left several messages at the fraternity, but had received no replies. She told officers she was reporting the incident to document the event in the hopes of preventing any future sexual assaults.

Has anyone encountered a "blank black screen of death" recently? While playing (in full screen mode) everything will suddenly go black. I can't even ctrl-alt-del my way out... I have to do a cold restart. It seems to be especially common in general trick-or-treating or in a zone where an event spawns.

I have changed no settings in CoH/V (it happens redside too). Nor have I changed any hardware or software configurations or drivers.

Pisses me off since I finally have some good play time, and I also avoid teaming 'cause I don't want to "disappear" and leave people in a lurch.

Time:01:17 pm
This is it -- the House of Representatives will vote on health insurance reform tomorrow. All signs point to it being incredibly close, possibly even coming down to a single vote.

With the clock ticking, insurance company lobbyists are going all out to stop reform. It'll be the first time in more than 60 years that the full body votes on comprehensive reform, and we expect it to be very close.

Today, the insurance industry and their allies are putting extraordinary pressure on every representative to defeat it. We know that their expensive lobbyists will be dashing to each congressional office, attempting to twist arms. The only question is whether the phones will be ringing off the hook with constituents supporting reform while that happens.

This is what I'm doing today.
